Jaicko Acoustic Set at Capitol Records – Video Recording
Transported from the wintry New York weather outside, EMI’s latest signing; Jaicko (Ja-y-co) serenaded an intimate crowd with his laid back Island charm
The Barbadian talent, Jaicko Lawrence, showcased his summery pop tunes to a small audience of industry insiders on a cold December night.
Singing about not needing ‘Nice things, all we need is you and me’ (2 piece), it’s easy to get swept away with his idyllic sentiment. ‘There’s no need for over thinking’, Jaicko sings about life through the eyes of a carefree teenager.
At just 18, the singer was more than we bargained for with strong acoustic vocals and chilled ethos. The performer also co writes all his songs with his father and cousin and is clear about his mission to make catchy pop music ‘I know this song a little annoying, but now I’m making dollars so I don’t care. Now I got the whole world singing oh yeah’. (Oh yeah)
Jaicko took the evening in his stride appearing open and relaxed with the audience and worked without ego alongside his guitarist who it turned out he had only met that day – you’d think they’d been working together a lot longer.
Oh Yeah and FFWD
The young singer was not at all intimidated by the intimate crowd and indeed mocked both me and my British accent for even suggesting it! Bloggers elsewhere were also particularly impressed with the ‘stripped down performance’.
His Bajan lilt carried infectious, happy go lucky, sentiments from the songs, Can I, 2 Piece and Oh Yeah that make you dream of being on a white beach somewhere with plenty of rum.
A confidant, humble and talented performer making accessible feel good tunes, this guy is sure to be a summer pop sensation.
